Surprise, Arizona

Alta Surprise is a large multifamily development on the far west side of the Phoenix area in Surprise, Arizona (the spring training home of our hometown Texas Rangers!).  With views of the Estrella Mountains in the distance, the community's 312 units are spread out on a fairly regular site among thirteen (13) three story buildings with a freestanding leasing and amenity building. The project demonstrates two different approaches to linear buildings along a street, both creating interest and pocket space by kinking the buildings along the street to the west, and closely following the rigor of the street to east. Developed by Wood Partners, the community opened in 2024 and was Design Balance’s first completed project in Arizona.
